Rory recently started taking ballet classes at the Loudoun School of Ballet. A friend of ours teaches there and so we decided to give it a try and see how Rory likes it. Well, it turns out that she LOVES ballet and dance in general. The school is also part of a company that puts on ballets around the community and the one that was coming up was Alice in Wonderland, which is also what Rory’s dance for her recital is. (She’s the white rabbit) To raise money for the company they put on events shortly before the ballets.
I thought it would be a great idea to take Rory to her first tea party, the Mad Hatter’s tea party, to be exact. There were Mad Hatter hats on every table, decorated by girls at the dance school, tiny finger foods, macaroons, mini cupcakes, and of course tea and coffee. They were also showing excerpts from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland ballet performance.
Rory was so excited to dress up! Any reason to dress up and this girl is there. She absolutely loves a reason to get all fancied and frilled. My Mom and I did have to talk her into getting some pictures with the ballet dancers but once she saw other little girls doing it she was ready to go. There were even some dancers who matched Rory perfectly! She could have been up there dancing with them.
The costumes were incredible! I didn’t get pictures of all of the dancers but let me tell you you could tell that a lot of time and energy went into making them. They were definitely not all store bought costumes, and the makeup! The Queen of Hearts was, by far, my favorite of all the make up and she was a great dancer and actress on top of it.
The dance company really put on a terrific event for all of these little girls. It definitely made Rory excited for her own recital and dance class, in general. If you have the opportunity to attend any of the Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company’s fundraiser events, like this one, jump on it! They do not disappoint!
